Our Impression Of “The Speed Of Time”

We recently got the chance to check out “The Speed Of Time” from Russ Nickel and William J. Stribling.

This originally got on our radar because of Sean Marquette, which some of you may know from The Goldbergs, or the voice of Mac from “Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends.”

This film reminds us of a show that we actually really liked prior, called “Future Man“, which had three seasons but concluded. While the concept is similar enough that we had to bring it up, we can honestly say that the short stands out on it’s own for many reasons.

Why it is similar: While the movie does cover a visitor from the future, and “TimeBorgs” are pretty similar to the “Biotic” troopers of “Future Man“, the short’s similarities then run short, with the exception that both focus heavily on gross out and irrelevant humor, but what doesn’t this era?

Why it is different: The idea and joke that a pizza app invents time travel and destroys space and time, is hilarious. The idea of a future self going back in time to stop himself from ruining time doesn’t seem like much, except when you laugh at how differently the two look.

I mean come on…. The movie makes up for the difference with a hilarious reason which we won’t spoil here.

Why it stands out: The pacing and fast forward skipping really colors and creates a unique style of storytelling. It allows a full movie, or season of story to be shown in such a short period of time. Only 13 minutes! It’s content like this that shows that a 15 minute TV series format is still able to convey a solid and complete story.

The premise of this story is still crazy and rediculous wouldn’t work without the amazing talented John Hennigan, Sean Marquette, and Nic Nemeth.

You can watch this short today on Dust!
