NTOTX – Maze Room’s “The Shed” Review

Not ready to give up the ghost of Halloween just yet? Then you’re in luck, because Maze Rooms has you covered at their Austin, TX location with their intricately horrifying escape room, The Shed.

This game provides an intimate playing experience, and can be enjoyed by a party of anywhere from 2 to 4 people. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the game was not only playable with a party of 2, but still highly enjoyable and fully solvable without a larger group.

You’re drawn in to this engaging experience from the very beginning, when you are introduced to your captor, the “Capitol Cannibal.” With 60 minutes to escape with your life or become his next victim, teamwork is absolutely crucial; be sure to come prepared with people you can trust to not only carry their weight, but who are ready for some creative critical thinking and who can keep their cool amongst a variety of frights and challenging puzzles. Your party may ask for up to 5 hints, of which our party used 3 in order to aid in our escape.

The confines of The Shed may not be for the claustrophobic, but the tight quarters bring a very unique flair to this experience.

The Shed is the most difficult of the escape rooms available on the premises, and is in fact one of the most challenging you will find in the Austin area, with only a 20% escape rate with a full party of 4. Approximately 1 in every 5 groups will be able to keep their wits intact and find their way out of The Shed.

Maze Rooms has been operating from their Austin location for the past 4 years, and features three thrilling themes to choose from for your escape room experience, including:

  • Spy Safe House,
  • Pharaoh’s Tomb, and
  • The Shed.
  • The Shed is the newest addition to their repertoire. Despite having only been open for one year, The Shed is rightfully the most popular of the escape rooms at Maze Rooms. Puzzles are occasionally being updated to enhance the overall experience, so if you find yourself back in The Shed in the future, you may yet have some surprises in store.

The facility itself can be found inside an otherwise unassuming office building in northern Austin. With a welcoming lobby and friendly staff, Maze Rooms was an absolute treat from beginning to end. While you wait, you can enjoy video games in a lobby that feels like it could be your own living room.

New players may want to start with one of the lower difficulty level rooms before working their way up to The Shed, while those who have completed their fair share of escape rooms will find it a refreshingly different experience that is not to be missed.
