Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of March 26, 2021

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on ”If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.

Hutch Mansell, played by Bob Odenkirk, is a family man, taking everything on the chin and trying to live a calm normal life. When thieves break into his home though, his pacifist lifestyle places a wedge in his family life. When the following events become a catalyst for his unbridled rage, it places him right back onto the path of danger he had long escaped from.

I’ve been waiting for this film for a bit! This movie comes off as more fun, and not afraid to lean into humor, a version of a History of Violence. I love these hidden anti-hero stories where the seemingly normal person is capable of the utter destruction of anyone who would challenge them.

A rookie priest arrives for his first day of training with a renowned exorcist. As they plunge deeper into hell on Earth, the lines between good and evil blur and their own demons emerge. Starring Guy Pearce.

Exorcism films have been a fun escape for those that straddle the line between religious, and non-religious for years. Since the success of the original, all the way to the modern iterations, they either bomb or succeed usually based on two factors, star power, and story. Here we have the amazing Guy Pearce in the project, so at least you have one out of two.

With England on the cusp of war with Germany in the summer of 1939, a teacher, played by Eddie Izzard, is brought into an English seaside town to teach English to the daughters of the influential leaders of the Nazi Party. However, the teacher and the headmistress, played by Judi Dench, but heads as factions are called into question.

This movie looks amazing. It’s a period piece that showcases the xenophobia that is brought on by war, in addition to secret plans and actions in the background. If you are looking for a thinker piece to watch this week, I highly suggest this film.

The Toll – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%

Cami, played by Jordan Hayes, wants to take a trip to her father’s home in the country but is frustrated by her chatty driver, played by Max Topplin. While she thinks he is frustrating, it’s made worse when his wrong turn causes them to trespass against a person they don’t want to be on the wrong side of.

This suspenseful horror reminds me of the beginning of Jeepers Creepers. If you are looking for a solid horror/suspense film this weekend, watch The Toll.

While the world is distracted by the World Cup, a crew, starring Freddie Highmore and Famke Janssen, struggle to breach an impenetrable fortress hidden under The Bank of Spain. Can they break in and score the heist of a lifetime before they are caught?

If you are looking for an action/heist film this week, we suggest you pick up this film. While Famke Janssen is straight fire for roles like this, we may have a problem seeing Freddie Highmore in an action role. If you haven’t been distracted by his roles on The Good Doctor or Bates Motel, you might be more inclined to give this a try.
