DTLA Mini Maker Faire Excursion

Over the weekend the Nerd News Social team took an excursion to the Downtown LA area for the DTLA Mini Maker Faire held at the Central Library. This is the third year this event has been going on, but sadly on the first time we have heard of it. Maker Faire is described as “a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects.” and I couldn’t put it any better way. This was an event for people of any age and interest which held free seminars and workshops such as a Rocket Build Challenge, Making of an LED Art Piece, Drone Flying, 3-D Printed Math and Science, Create Your Own Podcast, and Cardboard Puppet Construction, just to name a few. A few of the people attending also had some amazing designs that work in the way of helping the Earth so thank you pHutureponics and seedbox!

What we thought would be a small event actually turned out to be quite large with a vast amount of different ideas, companies (Microsoft and Mattel were also there), people, and even bands who played gathered throughout the outer area of the library and on various floors throughout the gorgeous library. There really is too much to talk about so I will just share with you a few of the things that stood out to me. You can find even more info on their website. I am so glad we went and for all the new amazing people we met. It’s a free event filled with so many activities and inspiration and I hope you can join in next year.

I hope this has inspired you for the new year. Also I’d like to give a reminder to help out and follow your local library, I wouldn’t have found this event if I didn’t get their newsletter. With my library card, parking was only a dollar and don’t forget all the other cool free things you can do with a library card such as have access to Linda.com, and my favorite thing to do, read FREE comics and listen to free audio books with the Hoopla.com app! Keep following our Instagram and Facebook for what we are up to next and we will see you next time.
