Loss of hearing affects many more people than most realize. In fact, you likely know more than one person suffering from the onset of hearing loss.

They found in their studies that there was a direct connection between the lack of function in multimodal cortex. This is caused by cortical degeneration. They found that it may be possible to fight the damage and association to dementia with the use of hearing aids and cochlear implants. I know that the cochlear implants open a wide can of worms for the deaf community, with the split on the use of them in their groups, but the use of this device is not tailored to people specifically in the deaf community, but with hearing loss as it is developing.
The effects of losing hearing can cause a lot more than even that though, as the isolation can lead to depression and the decline to physical health. With over 15% of people experiencing hearing loss in their life, this can be a serious issue, but it can be handled with tools.
