Kapoor And Semple Releases Waring Black Paint Art

Vantablack has been a problem in the art world for some time. A company created the paint, and Anish Kapoor purchased exclusive rights to the paint preventing the world from access to the blackest black on the planet so that he and he alone could produce art with it.

Stuart Semple had a huge problem with this and created now three different black paints to compare and fight the technological release of Vantablack, and give the mass public a medium to replace the “color crime” (as he calls it) hole caused by Kapoor preventing access to the paint.

Semple believes that it’s a crime when people copyright/trademark specific colors and take them out of public use as it strips other artists from being able to use the color in their projects. He isn’t wrong.

As a result, Semple has created a black to rival Vantablack and has even gone through multiple variations of the paint now currently selling their Black 3.0.

To showcase his paint he has provided several of his projects to allow potential purchasers the ability to see what it’s capable of.

Now that Kapoor has showcased his newest exhibit at Palazzo Manfrin in Venice until October to showcase his work on Vantablack, it has ticked off Semple properly.

Clearly, you can see the connection in these two works, Vantablack on the left and Black 3.0 on the right.

As a way to get back at Kapoor, Semple has chosen to return the favor by copying another exhibit, see below.

You can purchase Semple’s version of the piece of art Here, or make your own with Black 3.0, which can be purchased Here.
