SDCC 2019 – Nerdist Presents The Upside Down: A Stranger Party

What is it like to party in the Upside Down? Nerd News Social found out during San Diego Comic Con, at the Fluxx nightclub, who during Comic Con have partnered with Nerdist, XLEVELENT, and CrunchyRoll.

The line for general admission were stretched around the corner, but if you were lucky VIP ticket holder, you entered the party through Club Byers and slipped right into the heart of Stranger Things.

The bar was renamed Starcourt after the mall and center piece location of action within the most recent season of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

A lifeguard tower overlooked the dance floor swimming with people enjoying the 80’s tunes performed by live cover bands like the Fluxx Capacitors!

Everywhere you turned there were nods to the show, like the Byers living room from season one in the VIP lounge, posters from arcade classics in season two and a fantasy photo booth like the one in the Starcourt mall in season three.

It wasn’t all sunshine though, and the monstrous demigorgon was around. What I hoped was a statue of a demigorgan lurked to the left side of the stage, but a living breathing one would occasionally roam through the crowds at random.

On the walls were little rats, spider webs and vines giving party goers the best little details and embellishments to enjoy. After exiting the venue, one last fun appearance and photo OP was parked outside, in the form of Ecto-1 from the Ghostbusters movie!

It’s amazing to think of how fast they are able to turn over the location from one theme to another, but we definitely enjoyed the homage to Stranger Things and 80’s culture and hope to see a repeat of this level of love from fans and for fans of Stranger Things in the future.

The next and last themed parties coming up at the Fluxx was The Awesome Mixer Vol. 2 Party, themed after Guardians of the Galaxy.
