Pokemon Go – Virizion enters the fray!

Alright, Trainers! We have a brand new five star Raid Boss to break down for you today.

From December 17th at 1:00pm till January 7th till 1:00pm you can find and fight this Unova region Legendary in Raids.

Virizion, not to be confused with Verizon the mobile phone network, is the third Sword of Justice. Like Cobalion and Terrakion before it, it is based on one of the Three Musketeers. This time it’s Aramis, the most ambitious and romantic of the three. His flair and drive is easily communicated through Virizion’s lithe and athletic looking design.

So, let’s dig a little deeper and check the info on this deer, deer creature.

Spotlight on Virizion

As mentioned earlier, this Pokemon comes to us from Unova. It’s a Grass/Fighting Type. The Pokedex lets us know that this Pokemon fought Humans to protect Pokemon from their wars. It would confound opponents with its sheer speed, using whirlwind motions and sharp horns to win fights. An interesting little bit of trivia – you can catch one in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire but you have to have three Pokemon in your party that have Max Effort Values in your party. Maximum Effort!

In Pokemon GO it has a Max CP of 3022, Attack of 192, Defense of 229 and Stamina of 209. Surprisingly bulky despite its somewhat willowy appearance, right? Which is good because it does come with a whole host of weaknesses; Flying is especially nasty. You also have Ice, Fire, Poison, Fairy and Psychic to worry about. For Attacks you’ve got Quick Attack and Zen Headbutt for Fast Attacks… no STAB options at this time. Quick Attack, though, does neutral damage faster so is the better option in general. Charged Attacks are Stone Edge, Close Combat and Leaf Blade. The latter two are STAB with Leaf Blade being the better option.

Countering this Pokemon in Raids should be relatively easy. Mewtwo, Gardevoir, Moltres, Articuno, Entei, Magmortar, Arcanine, Staraptor, Alakazam, Lugia. Your options are many!

And there you have it, Trainers! Have fun capturing the last Sword of Justice.

Well…. almost the last one. I mean, we can hardly forget Keldeo, right?

No word yet on how we’ll come into contact with the smallest of the Swords. Will it be Special Research? Will it be an EX Raid? Will it be a regular Raid that they just haven’t announced the dates for yet? (I’m hoping for Special Research like Regigigas but who knows?)

As always, best of luck!
