PGO – GO Fest 2020 Update!

Hey, we’re nearly there, Trainers! Who’s excited!?

Since our last article on GO Fest Here we have a few late-breaking details I wanted to make you aware of.

For those who may not know what I’m talking about, Pokemon GO Fest 2020 is taking the form of a two day ticketed event available for Trainers anywhere in the world. Your ticket costs $14.99 or your local currency equivalent and takes place between 10:00am and 8:00pm on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th of July.

Global Challenges and Rewards

On day one, we’re going to be challenged to beat certain challenges as a group. The number of them that we complete will determine which rewards we unlock.

If we complete 8 of the challenges, we unlock Dragon Week. Between July 31st 1:00pm and August 7th 1:00pm there will be the following benefits:

  • An increased spawn rate of Dragon-Type Pokemon. Well, Dragon Types and Pokemon who evolve into Dragons. Alolan Exeggutor, Dratini, Bagon, Trapinch, Swablu and Horsea with an increased possibility (Though, I’m assuming it will still be pretty rare.) to find Gible.
  • The same Pokemon will hatch from 7Km Eggs with the addition of Deino.
  • Rayquaza roars back into 5 Star Raids.
  • A Special, Timed Research event will be available for the week and it will give you two Deino.
  • Deino will be available in Shiny.
  • If we complete 16 Challenges, we’ll unlock Enigma Week. Between August 7th 1:00pm and August 14th 1:00pm there will be the following benefits:

  • An influx of odd Pokemon! Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Lunatone, Solrock, Bronzor, Staryu, Baltoy and making its Pokemon GO debut is the surreal-looking Elgyem!
  • 7Km Eggs will hatch Igglybuff, Cleffa, Lunatone, Solrock and Elgyem.
  • Unown spawns in the wild will be more common, specifically the letters U, L, T, R and A! (Now I just need P, L, U and S.)
  • In Raids, you’ll see Bronzong, Claydol, Elgyem and the aforementioned Unown.
  • In 5 Star Raids, we’ll see the return of Normal Forme Deoxys with the possibility of catching a Shiny!
  • Speaking of Shinies, Staryu will be available in Shiny too.
  • If we complete 24 Challenges, we’ll unlock Unova Week. Between August 14th 1:00pm and August 21st 1:00pm there will be the following benefits:

  • Unova based Pokemon will spawn more frequently and hatch from 7km Eggs.
  • The introduction of Emolga, Cottonee and Sewaddle! Welcome to the fray!
  • We’ll also be seeing Unova based Pokemon in Raids.
  • 5 Star Raids will feature Genesect, and introduce the possibility to catch a Shiny Genesect. (They’re bright red and really cool looking. Like a sports car. If that sports car was also a giant bug monster.)
  • Another new addition will be Bouffalant! It’s going to be a regional Pokemon, though, and only available around New York. I’m assuming because it’s the Buffalo Pokemon. Buffalo… New York. (Yeah I see you Niantic. I see you and I love you.)
  • Roggenrolla will be available in Shiny!
  • So, what exactly will these Ultra Challenges be? No clue! In years past, it’s centered around catching Pokemon. Either a sheer quantity of Pokemon caught or Pokemon of varying Types. My best guess, being that there will be rotating ‘environments’ is that we’ll be tasked with catching Pokemon of varying Types at particular times of the day. One cool feature is that we’re going to be able to track the progress of these challenges via the Today screen.

What about Day 2? Niantic hasn’t been forthcoming on details for the second day, so, we’ll have to wait and see!

    Other things of note:

  • You’re going to want to be at LEAST level 10 before the start of GO Fest. That’s an XP Total of 45,000. Crack open those Lucky Eggs and evolve that Backlog of Pidgeys, Newbie! I believe in you!
  • Stock up on Incense. They’re going to last for an hour each and will increase spawns of featured Pokemon.
  • GO Fest Avatar Items are now available in the Apparel Shop. Want to show off how excited you are to be a part of this event? Go ahead and dress to impress.
  • There’s a print at home kit if you want some physical stuff to interact with. You can find it Here and there’s some cool stuff! Including life-size Team Captains!
  • Team Virtual Lounge! Log in online to see how well your Team is doing in the Global Challenge Rankings, watch fun videos and even see John Hanke give a Keynote speech at 2:00pm on Friday the 24th.
  • That’s all I got for you today, Trainers! I’m pretty pumped to get out there and have some fun in a safe and socially distanced manner. Remember, it’s important to keep your safety and the safety of your community in mind, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this event. As always, I wish you the absolute best of luck! Let’s get out there and unlock a Shiny Genesect.
