Movies Releasing For The Week Of September 7, 2018

We are back for another week. Ready to get my … Interesting take on movies?

Here is what movies are coming out tomorrow, and if we suggest you watching them.

City of Lies – Releasing 09/07/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

In limited release, this true crime story deals with the murder of “The Notorious B.I.G.” The movie is a thriller which follows LAPD detective Russell Poole, played by Johnny Depp, and a reporter named Jack Jackson, played by Forest Whitaker, as they try to solve the open case. In the story they deal with corruption, lies and conspiracy.

This is not a large release movie, but the subject matter will likely lead to a large audience even in it’s limited release. I will warn you. There is no new conclusive evidence in this movie, or else you would have heard about it proir to the movie, since this is based on a Non-Fiction book. However if you are a conspiracy believer, then I’d recommend this movie.

Let the Corpses Tan – Wide Releasing 09/07/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 86%

An homage to the Italian crime films of yester-years, criminals steal a truck load of gold bars and hold up in a remote village of the Mediterranean. Filled with hypersexuality, art, and hedonistic endeavors, the criminals relax their restraint until a couple police officers stumbles upon them. The movie then shifts into a majorly insane battle of guts and blood that pays tribute to the pulp novel it’s bassed on.

As a foreign film going from limited to wide release, this might be a hard sale for people. Most people see subtitles and check out, but of all the releases this week, this seems like the most stylized and a real contender to be an experience that is unique and breathtaking. I highly recommend that you give this movie a chance.

Mara – Releasing 09/07/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 0%

In what appears to be a remake of the 2013 Swedish film of the same name, Maya is the story of a centuries-old demon who kills sleeping victims. This version has deviated from the original which takes place in a cabin, and shifts the style to fit closer to a modern day thriller as a criminal psychologist interviews the child of the victim, the father, and suspect, the mother. The child identifies the killer simply as “Mara” and the psychologist investigates “Mara” to find others who claim to have ben tormented by the demon.

There is tons of horror movies releasing this week as we start getting into the home stretch for Halloween. I have to say of the movies, this one might be the second best for quality, but it is a remake from the creator of Paranormal Activity. So maybe wait for the next week for the reviews to come out.

The Nun – Releasing 09/07/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

As a prequel/spin-off to “The Conjuring 2” a priest with a sorted past has to investigate the death of a young nun in a Romania Nunnery. When arriving they discover a dark secret, in trying to uncover it they must face a demonic nun that challenges his faith and soul.

This movie looks well blah. It’s a horror movie, and worse so, it’s a spin-off horror movie. That seems to be the thing this day. Companies make horror movies with grab bag of jump scares, and then watches the audience’s response. If the audience is scared more of one thing, then another, the company then makes a prequel of that jump scare. Can we just make well written horror stories from the start please? Otherwise if you are looking for your next jump scare, you are going to watch this movie regardless of what I tell you.

Peppermint – Releasing 09/07/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Peppermint is about a mother/wife who loses everything to a random act of violence. When the justice system fails her, and the criminals responsible get away, she turns to her own violent form of justice. She trains and becomes a skilled killer, and single-handedly attempts to remove the violent gang that took everything from her.

This feels like a female driven John Wick style movie. However this film focuses not on a murder who tried to leave the life, but a regular person who was pulled into a violent world. This will definitely be the film that everyone looking for an action flick is going to see. However it’s very likely to be worth it’s weight with the acting chops behind it. Go get your murder fix people!
