What3Words Can Help You Stay Safe And Find Fun Things

Longitude and latitude has been a tool for geocacher’s, GPS service, and adventurers for a very long time. Since the olden days of sailing around the ocean, Longitude and latitude has provided aid in discovering exactly where you are, and obtaining help if something goes wrong.

For those who are novices in the field of its measurement system, a minimum mistake when describing where you are, can lead rescue crews and adventures alike miles away from the desired location.

It’s for these reason that what3words decided to create their system. Removing an numerical system and using keywords as a way to plot a location can help prevent a misstatement or mistake and prevent misdirection for adventurers and emergency technicians.

Each square will be attributed 3 words, for each language the words will be different. The words do not translate to other languages for other countries, which was intention as it might cause problems with regards to similar words in those languages.

One specific way that I can see this as being helpful, is that within the United States mile markers have not been maintained on freeways. Every time a car takes one out, or someone steals one off the freeway, the government just doesn’t replace them. So if your car breaks down on the road to Vegas somewhere between Barstow and Baker, instead of telling the tow truck or emergency personnel to “…just drive down the road till they see you,” you can pull up your exact 3 word location and give that to the personnel.
