    Thor Odinson
    Norse Mythology

It’s impossible to talk about Thor without mention of the lore and tales of the Norse Mythology that it gets it’s origins from. While it’s important to note that firstly the Scandinavian people believed that written words were powerful, and not to be triffled with. So most history and tales were told around the campfire. The stories of the first kings and rulers of the land became stories of magic and gods. With that in mind Thor was not always a friendly and patient god, as he was known to be very vengeful for those that wronged him. In spite of that, he is still viewed very favorably in the mythology and when Christianity came to Scandinavia, most people held tight to their traditions, turning the cross into a combination of the religious object, and Thor’s hammer.
    Ultimate Thor
    Ultimates #4 (2002)

Ultimate Thor was a man on earth who was believed to be a normal every day man, who unfortunately may have lost his mind. However, while Thor was believed to be mad, he knew who he was, and eventually was able to prove his power and join his rightful place amoung the Avengers.

This version of Thor feels a lot closer to the idea they were going for in the original Thor movie, with Thor thrown down to Earth by Odin with no powers. Even Jane Foster, until proven otherwise, believed Thor to just be someone with a couple screws loose. However, once he became worthy, he was able to pick up the hammer and reclaim his powers.

Additionally, Ultimate Thor’s weapon, Stormbreaker was even included in the MCU canon when he needed to forge a new weapon worthy of his title of King of Asgard.
    Thor (Jane Foster)
Thor: God of Thunder #25 (2014)

Viewed as one of the most powerful versions of the Hero, Jane Foster’s run of Thor was not called “She-Thor” or “Female Thor”, but respectfully, and appropriately, simply Thor. Jane Foster was unfortunately suffering from cancer, and was dying. When Thor became unworthy to wield the hammer, no one could claim it, but the hammer sought out Foster, and even changed it’s inscription’s pronoun when she claimed it. Originally Thor was angry and unaware of the holder, until he saw Foster in action, and then relinquished the name respectfully to her.

Jane Foster is no foreigner to powers, as once before she was granted immortality in Asgard, only to loose it when Odin found her unworthy. The tragedy of the story was that every time she transformed back to Foster, her cancer would return back to the first day she became Thor. Meaning no matter how much treatment, or procedures she underwent, she was putting herself through intense torture and pain.

True to the title though, Foster choose to continue transforming, to help the world.

Chris Hemsworth will return in Thor: Love and Thunder alongside Natalie Portman and her return as Jane Foster.
