Vidoes On Demand For The Week Of April 17, 2020

Fantasy Island
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 7%

Blumhouse Films returns yet again, with Fantasy Island, Mr. Roarke, played by Michael Peña, invites guests to his amazing tropical resort, where everyone can have anything they want. No matter the cost. As their dreams and wishes turn from fantasy to horror, the guests’ only wish is to escape.

It’s interesting taking this TV show from the past, which was re-made before, and turning it into a horror film. The original show was all about the journey and ending with them learning a lesson. It is possible that at the end of this film, it was all a lesson to be better people. That being said, if the movie actually does this, I would be one hundred percent behind it!

The Gentlemen
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 74%

Mickey Pearson, played by Matthew McConaughey, is an American who came to London to build the biggest marijuana empire. However, when he feels it’s time to retire, every two-bit thief, villain, and mobster will stop at nothing to step into his shoes in the field. Can Mickey make it out of the business in one piece?

Guy Richie is back, having written and directed this movie. It’s filled to the brim with highly skilled acting talent, including Charlie Hunnam and Hugh Grant. This is the film we wanted from Guy Richie, not Robin Hood. If you are looking for the world’s next Snatch, then this film should fit the bill!

My Spy
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 51%

JJ, played by Dave Bautista, is a spy for the CIA. While he is dedicated to the job, his behavior gets him demoted, and is sent to surveil a family, undercover. His job gets harder though, when the daughter, Sophie, played by Chloe Coleman, discovers that JJ is a spy. However, instead of blowing JJ’s cover, she convinces JJ to teach her how to be a spy.

I have to say, this Mr. Nanny and Pacifier storyline movies keep coming back. We love seeing tough guys being forced into helping, and raising young bratty children. I mean the premise is the same, both learn something from each other, and build a bond out of the situation. I will say though, that I love Dave Bautista, so I am more inclined to give this movie a chance.

The Rhythm Section
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 28%

Stephanie, played by Blake Lively, loses everything she has known when her family dies in a plane crash. When she finds out that it wasn’t an accident, Stephanie spirals into a world of revenge and murder, to track down who killed everyone she loved.

Jude Law looks amazing in this film, and it feels like a mix of Leon and Wanted. If you are looking for an action-suspense film, then Lively delivers!

Underwater
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 47%

A crew set upon the task of researching the ocean, but when the decision to build a lab under the ocean was thought, they weren’t prepared for the effects of an earthquake. Now the scientists, including Kristen Stewart and T.J. Miller, must find a way to escape their watery grave.

A disaster porn survival movie, with a clear choice of T.J. Miller to provide levity. While I don’t especially dislike T.J.Miller, this is one of his recent films after his recent disappearance from the industry. While I believe there should be an ability to recover from behavior and mistakes, there is a degree at which a person should be able to recover from. Everyone watching this movie has to ask themselves if enough time has passed, and more importantly, what has T.J. Miller done to recover his career and correct his prior behaviors?
