Are you on Team Trees?

Youtube is bringing the internet together to plant 20 millions trees by 2020 in a far-reaching campaign started by creator MrBeast. Most internet challenges are easily brushed off as the next get-popular-quick fad — but this time, the internet had other ideas. Fans challenged MrBeast back in May of 2019 to take on saving the planet by planting the impressive number of trees to celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers. MrBeast decided to take this to heart, and has been working tirelessly over the past 5 months with other content creators to get this eco friendly ball rolling.

Thus #TeamTrees came into being, partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation. Every dollar donated equals one new tree being planted somewhere across the globe. 100% of each donation goes towards the trees, which will be planted in partnership with professional agencies including the U.S. Forestry Service. As their website states, #TeamTrees would be thrilled “to plant trees on every continent not named Antarctica!” Due to the sheer volume of trees being planted, the trees will start being planted in January of 2020, with the last of the trees to be planted by December of 2022. The trees will include native species to their respective area, in order to “plant the right trees, in the right place, for the right reasons.”

The campaign is taking off, with millions of donations on the board. As of the writing of this article, #TeamTrees is over halfway to their goal, standing at 10,016,247 trees to be planted, and the number continues to climb ever higher. 1 million of those trees come courtesy of Elon Musk, proclaiming “For Treebeard” with his generous donation. Even this bounty of charity has been challenged for the greater good, with Tobi Lutke currently holding the top contributor spot at 1 million and 1 trees. Other contributors include MrBeast himself, Susan Wojcicki, Jeffree Star, jacksepticeye, Mark Rober, JaidenAnimations, and Ninja. You may be seeing messages about #TeamTrees on more and more of your favorite Youtube channels as the deadline of 2020 draws nearer.

It only takes $1 to plant a tree. You can make your donation at their website.
