A History Of Sealand And An Interesting Holiday Gift Idea

Build during World War II, Sealand was built illegally to serve as a fortress island in international waters in the North Sea to help defend the British nation against German invaders.

It is a concrete and steel fortress located 7 nautical miles off the east coast (double the 3-mile range of territorial waters), north of the River Thames.

England then abandoned Sealand and other forts in the 1950s. Most of the other fortresses were pulled down. In the 1960s Roy Bates, a Major in the British army, took over a fort and built a radio station upon fort Knock John. This was one of the “Pirate” radio stations, of the era that the public fell in love with. The UK government took over Knock John Fort, and Roy Bates then moved to Roughs Tower but outside the three-mile jurisdiction of England.

Roy then consulted attorneys and decided to declare Roughs Tower the independent state of Sealand, and on the 2nd of September 1967, Roy declared the fortress the Principality of Sealand. Roy made his wife Princess Joan of Sealand.

When England found out, they destroyed the remaining fortresses, and then dragged Roy to court. The judge concluded “UK courts have no jurisdiction” over Sealand.

But how does this help me?

While Sealand is the smallest country in the world, it has its own motto (E Mare, Libertas), royal rulers, a constitution, a flag, passports, currency, and even stamps. While the country is small, they are welcoming others to come, and for a price, gain a Noble title, ID cards, or a piece of the country.

For $36.99 you can obtain an ID card from the principality. For $44.99 you can become a lord or a lady of the territory. More impressively for $29.99 you can purchase land in Sealand for 10 years, with the option for a small fee to retain the property.

If you are looking for an insane and unique gift for your loved ones, then think about Sealand titles, gifts, and property. Purchases help to improve and maintain Sealand and supports the independence of Sealand from their enemy nations… England.
