Distance Can’t Stop Comic-Con @ Home’s Masquerade

San Diego Comic Con’s Masquerade is one of the most amazing things about the convention. It’s a cosplayer fan’s dream, and a cosplayer’s gauntlet! The event is usually full of impressive months if not years worth of work, and usually delivered with style or acted out stories.

Almost every year there has been one if not more experiences that you will remember fondly from the event.

It’s incredibly sad that we can’t all get together to put on the show, let alone watch it with friends at the convention, but that can’t stop the cosplay! Tumblr will once again host the 2021 Comic-Con @ Home’s Masquerade. This will allow cosplayers the ability to continue the decades long history of costuming and provide a venue for the amazing cosplayers that consider Comic-Con their second home!

Awards will be given in several categories, and prizes will be awarded!

  • Best In Show
  • Judges’ Choice
  • Best Re-Creation
  • Best Original Design
  • Best Workmanship
  • Most Beautiful
  • Best Group
  • Most Humorous
  • Awards include custom-created Masquerade medallions, designed by Sue Dawe, the same maker of the Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

Additionally the Most Innovative Costume will receive a $500 gift card to Amazon from The UCLA David C. Copley Center for The Study of Costume Design, as judged by it’s Director, Deborah Nadoolman Landis.

The Costume Designers Guild IATSE Local 892, will be giving one lucky designer the Costume Designers Guild Spotlight Award, including a costume design book, a copy of CDG Magazine, and a $100 gift card to Mood Fabrics.

Lastly one “outstanding” costume will win an awared of $1,000 from The Frank and Son Collectible Show.

I know it’s too late for this year to participate, if you haven’t started, but hopefully watching the event unfold will convince you to join in the festivities for next year when we will all hopefully be together again. Until then, though, watch the masquerade here!
