SDCC 2018 First Look – Deadquarters!

AMC’s The Walking Dead, once again being a large presence at Comic-Con San Diego, not only does it have a large booth inside of the convention center, is the main image on the convention badges for the third year in a row (or more), it also has again this year a large outside of the convention experience called DEAD QUARTERS Zombie Fan Zone which is going on till Sunday. We had a chance to cover the outside experience and this is what we found.

Themed perfectly to the latest season, the first thing you see when you walk in is photo opportunity with a Jadis look-a-like and her infamous zombie meat grinder. Go ahead and get into the grinder for a photo-op, it’s totally safe.

After you do the meat grinder, you will see actual props from the show including the barrier cars covered in sheet metal from a particular episode of the show this latest season, an APV, and one of the highlights… Daryl’s motorcycle. They told me it works and is actually from the show! There are professional photographers there to take your pic as a boomerang with the bike.

You will notice a large curved slide into a foam pit, what it has to do with the show I’m not sure but I will tell you it’s really fun! Another photo opportunity with photographers there catching you in slow-mo flying out of the slide high speed. R.I.P. anything in your pockets.

One of the highlights was going into a strange small building to find a lot of sketches and writings on the all over the place themed Ricks and Eugene’s ideas of the “keys to the future”. Also inside is another photo-op with Lucille…ON FIRE! But don’t forget to also check out and play the newest AR mobile game by The Walking Dead called “Our World”. The best way to describe it is like Pokemon Go but with zombies instead of Pokémon, and instead of collecting Zombies, you headshot them. Besides killing zombies, you can also go on missions. Very fun and available on Apple and Android.

For me the highlight was getting a defense training session from Morgan’s staff trainer on the show who also worked on TMNT Secret of the Ooze as Donatello, Ernie Reyes Jr.! If you are around the con, it’s a must go.

The hours of the activation is:
July 19 – July 21 11AM-6PM
July 22 11AM-4PM
