May 5th through the 11th is National Business Week, a time where small business owners are recognized, the government helps organize events, and awards to some of the most under recognized people in the United States. In a country, where the works of Amazon and Google are always celebrated, it’s awesome to have a week that is primarily about the little guys, and not just a single sale day after Black Friday.
So here at NNS, we wanted to get in the spirit, and recognize some of our favorite geek and nerd based Small Businesses.
History of National Small Business Week
The U.S. Small Business Administration was founded in 1953. The National Small Business Week was a Presidential Proclamation by John F. Kennedy in 1963.
This year marks the 66th year of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and the 56th anniversary of the National Small Business Week. The week changes every year but is within May. This year was announced in March by Carol Wilkerson of the SBA.
National Small Business Week, recognizes small businesses (Duh), and the contributions of business men and entrepreneurs that keep them running. The SBA states that more than half of U.S. Citizens own or are employed at a small business.

NNS Recognition of Small Businesses
Every day of Small Business Week, we will be posting at noon about a geek or nerd themed small business that goes out of their way to produce great quality product, or represent’s a beacon within their community.
While we will try to pick businesses with an online footprint, we apologize if this year seems to focus more on east and west coast businesses and misses out on the middle of the United States.
