Nerd Taste of Hawaii – Maui Bread Co. New Owners Rise To The Occasion

Last we visited Maui Bread Co. was a long time ago, see our article Here. Since then a Pandemic and new owner has changed a lot at the location.

Originally leasing some space from the original owners, Steve and Christine Lange took over the spot completely in January 2020. The idea of running a bread store in Maui started when visiting the island Christine saw a lacking of German/European bread on the island. That’s not exactly surprising since most of the cuisine and culture is Polynesian-inspired. You can get tons of Thai Food here, and it’s amazing!

The Lange family doesn’t want to remove the amazing bread that the Maui Bread Co. provides to the people in the area, but just want to add options under the title of “German Artisan Bread.”

With that in mind, they’ve invested in German machinery and hiring a German Master Baker to work alongside their Hawaiian Master Baker. In fact, their catalog of items now includes traditional Hawaiian bread, traditional German bread, and some hybrid options to make old fans and new fans very happy.

Unfortunately, they were horribly affected by COVID, having to close their doors between March and November of 2020. Since November though they have been been able to regain their customers with the help of their coverage in the news, including giving a pretzel lei to the Maui Chamber of Commerce President!

We stopped by to get some snacks to enjoy throughout our trip, and you should as well!
