Bid On A NFT Genome From One Of The Fathers Of The Human Genome Project

Nebula Genomics, and Akon‘s NFT platform, AkoinNFT, are partnering to create a unique and awesome NFT opportunity for people in the burgeoning field.

Nebula Genomics is a DNA test website that specifically works to not only decode your genome for you, but also regularly keeps you updated with weekly research reports about your genetic code, and provides premium tools to go through your code at your own pace. They do this with a test for $299, but requires a monthly charge of at least $19.99 a month, or a lifetime fee of only $200.

They know genes and that is in part due to their founder Professor George Church’s work in the field. Professor Church specifically has provided contributions to the sequencing of genomes and pioneered the specialized fields of personal genomics and synthetic biology. In 1984 Professor Church published the first direct genomic sequencing method with his colleague Walter Gilbert. Professor Church also works with the group that initiate the Human Genome Project of the same year.

Part of the reason that Professor Church is joining with AkoinNFT is that they want to start a discussion about monetization and the sharing of health data. The problem with DNA in the past has been massive. Court systems in the past have found that people don’t have control or rights to their discarded health data.

In the case of Moore v. Regents of the University of California the Supreme Court of California found that the commercialized treatment derived from a patient’s discarded DNA did not grant any rights to the patient.

The NFT that that Professor Church is releasing with AkoinNFT is a high-res artistic representation of his own personal genome ERC-1155 NFT.

The auction will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 and a portion of the profits from the sale of this NFT will be donated to rare-disease research.

Oasis Labs will store the massive high-res NFT on their network. The NFT will be owned by the highest bidder, and will contain the representation, proof of ownership, and the digital location of the full date at Oasis Labs.

As an addition benefit for the highest bidder, they will receive Nebula Genomics‘ 30x whole genome sequencing of their own DNA.
