Nerd Out: Labor Day Weekend (August 30-September 2, 2019)

Hey everyone, we are trying something a little new here, It’s a segment named “Nerd Out” and will focus on events going on for the month ahead. To start it off, we thought since we are leading into the Labor Day Weekend, you might want a little breakdown of what you could be doing this weekend in Los Angeles Area, if you haven’t already left that is.

Some of the cool things going on this weekend are:

  • The Taste Los Angeles
  • Strategicon
  • Long Beach Comic Con
  • Halo: Outpost Discovery
  • The Taste Los Angeles
If you are a food connoisseur, and like amazing experiences, then get your food nerd on at The Taste. The Taste is thrown by the Los Angeles Times, and this year will be taking place at the Paramount Studios, so there is the added bonus of being at a film studios while there!

During their event they will be hosting presentations and classes for the attendees of cooking, and alcohol mixing and pairings. So anyone who calls themselves a foodie has no excuse to miss out!

They offer a basic and VIP package to the event (VIP comes with a tour of the studio), and either choice comes with unlimited samples of food from the best chefs and liquor of Los Angeles!

We actually wrote up a more detailed post about the event Here if you want to find out what restaurants will be at the event. If you want to buy tickets to the event, you can do so Here!

    Strategicon – Gateway
Strategicon is a pretty awesome event that runs right near Los Angeles Airport (LAX) in the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel. They hold three conventions annually, and this convention, Gateway, the last one of the year. It runs from 12:00 p.m. on August 30, 2019, and continues through to 6:00 p.m. on September 2, 2019.

While at Strategicon you can pick up some hard to find games in their dealer room, demo a game that’s not out yet, or get lost in hours of roleplaying games in their dedicated play areas. They even host LARPing, if you are into that sort of thing.

You may remember that we did a piece on them for our Nerd Small Business Week earlier in the year, you can find that Here!

So if you are really into games in general, and you are looking for something that fits into every single niche of that market, then swing down through Strategicon, and purchase tickets Here!

    Long Beach Comic Con
Not as big a convention as San Diego Comic Con, but with a fan base strong enough to fill the Long Beach Convention Center, stop by the Long Beach Comic Con, and get your “NERD ON”. This con runs from August 31st, 2019 through September 1, 2019.

At the convention, aside from the amazing nerd-centric shopping in their exhibitor hall, you can take in a panel, enjoy the Comic Creator Conference, stop by the Space Expo, watch some geek films in the festival, or even join in on the Cosplay contest.

You could even visit and get signatures from one of our favorite writers in the DC-Scape Shea Fontana. Check out our interview with her Here!

This convention has it all, and without the long drives and the need for a hotel room for Angelinos!

Want to be sorrounded by nerds in costume? Pick up tickets for Long Beach Comic Con Here!

    Halo: Outpost Discovery
A little bit further away, but well worth the drive is the Halo: Outpost Discovery that is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center. It runs from August 30, 2019 through September 1, 2019. The friday session is a little earlier in the day though.

While at the event you will have tons of photo-ops as you walk through the world of Halo, built to scale to make you feel like you are part of the game. You can even take a photo with a life-size Warthog!

They even will have halo themed Laser Tag for attendees to show off their skill. We actually wrote a little more indepth about this event Here if you want to know more about the Halo: Outpost Discovery. If you want to purchase tickets to the event, that can be done Here!

We will have a more detailed post about the event after we attend on Friday, so keep your eyes peeled to our Instagram account to see the event as we experience it on Friday!
