We Talk To Greg Aiello For A&E’s Nature Gone Wild

Greg Aiello is an esteemed professional guide, and now he is hosting a show on videos of raw, rare, and intense scenes in A&E’s new series “Nature Gone Wild”. We talked about the show in our prior article Here.

We got a chance to talk to Greg Aiello about the show, find out what he said!

Eric Bryan Seuthe II: Hey Greg, first thank you for taking the time to talk with us, I know you’d probably rather be out in nature! Clip shows are a great way to enjoy multiple pieces of content, in quick succession, allowing people to forgo the lead-in, and focus more on the interesting pieces of the content. How did you go about choosing videos from your own experiences, and from other people?

Greg Aiello: No worries at all! I appreciate you taking interest in the show!

Well, there are over 300 million cell phones out there, most with cameras. Combine that with the fact that more and more people are getting out into nature and we’re just seeing a huge amount of this kind of content out there. I mean, the natural world it’s just doing its thing like it’s been doing for thousands of years but only in the last decade or so have we been capturing so much of it. We actually have a team of people who curate these videos and then we all collaborate on what’s interesting about them and then we try and find as much information that pertains to each clip as possible. What might not seem like the most compelling clip to watch might have some really cool historical backstory that makes it even more interesting, so it’s been a really fun and interesting process.

Eric: I know you guys are showing and discussing your events, as well as other viral online videos of animals and nature, how much of the show will be your personal videos, and how much of it will be acquired from outside sources?

Greg: None of the videos from the first season are from my personal experiences. That was sort of the point. At least for season one we wanted to use videos captured by regular folks out there. That’s what I like about the show is having been out there for so many years and having had so many of these experiences myself, it’s been really cool to be sort of a virtual spectator.

Being able to break down what happened to other people out there is unique. I am looking at it from a true place of experience and I just think this adds yet another cool layer to an already interesting show.

Eric: When reviewing the clips, a lot of hosts in the past have tried to make light of the videos, but with the awe and terrifying aspects of nature and wild animals, how do you approach and address each clip as you share them with your audience?

Greg: That’s a great point and certainly a lot of what we’re showing are the extremes of nature. Some of it is a little scary and shocking but a lot of it is actually lighthearted. I mean, we go from a father and son driving through a wildfire and barely making it out alive to a bunch of people cracking up at their friend who’s getting attacked by a swan, so it really does take you through the emotions. We just handle each clip on its own. If it’s a scary animal encounter and there is a teachable moment in there then I will field it accordingly. If something is lighthearted or even silly then we’ll have a little more fun with it. I just sort of roll with the flow of the clips and do my best to keep it very real and approachable.

Eric: As we the audience lose ourselves in the show, is it safe to say that no clips will include people who are severely injured, so we can enjoy them guilt-free?

Greg: Absolutely. Yeah, important to know that even though there are some incredibly close calls that no one is seriously injured or loses their life in any of the clips that we showcase. So yeah, it’s nice to know that in advance so you can watch guilt free and even have fun playing armchair quarterback. It’s all easy to comment on from the comfort of our own living rooms! Nature Gone Wild really does take viewers on a great ride through the emotions. Even when I watch for the third or fourth time, I’ll find myself gripping the arm of the sofa on moment and then laughing out loud the next!

Eric: When it came to selecting the exact videos show in the show, does each episode follow a theme, or are they loosely organized?

Greg: No, we purposely did not want to have a theme especially for the first season. Partially because we wanted to see what the reaction was to different clips especially in a random format. Also, it seems like everybody from the crew to the network really enjoys how the show flows in this way so I feel like it will probably stay like this for the time being. I think it’s a pretty awesome family program that everyone will really enjoy and hopefully inspire some folks to get out there and capture some of their own amazing moments in the natural world!

Eric: Thanks for the time, and we can’t wait to see the show when it comes out!
