Movies Releasing For The Week of September 27

21 Bridges – Releasing 07/12/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

New York is on edge as a pair of cop killers try to flee the city. To prevent escape from Manhattan the police raise or close all 21 bridges. One detective, played by Chadwick Boseman, has what it takes to find the killers, but he uncovers much more, as conspiracy spreads all through the city.

If you are looking for a crime thriller then this is the film for you this week. This one is definitely a heavy one though.

Abominable – Releasing 09/27/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 83%
Yi, played by Chloe Bennet, and her friends, played by Tenzing Norgay Trainor and Albert Tsai, discover a Yeti, which they name Everest. The group then work together to help Everest return to his family, while avoiding the people who are hunting Everest, the villains played by Eddie Izzard and Sarah Paulson.

This is getting pretty impressive reviews, and it might actually be a solid kid film that meets the needs of the audience, and those that are dragged along, namely their parents. I’d recommend this film highly for families looking for something to do, and not just because I’m a fan of Eddie Izzard.

First Love – Releasing 09/27/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 100%
One night in Tokyo can change a life. Nothing showcases it more then First Love, the story of a boxer and a call girl whose love becomes complicated as a result of the Yakuza, and drug smuggling with a Noir style.

Given high marks already, Takashi Miike is considered by most to be very skilled in the field. His new film is currently holding a perfect rating, on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing this. I can not recommend it more.

Judy – Releasing 09/27/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 86%
Renee Zellweger takes up the mantle of Judy Garland, 30 years after the success of The Wizard of Oz. The film shows off the strength, intelligence, and capabilities of the amazing actress as she performs her sold out show ‘The Talk of the Town’.

Sadly a lot of people do not know the depth of Judy Garland, and only know her for performance within The Wizard of Oz, I hope this movie does something to show the younger crowd that she was so much more, and why she was so beloved.

Sea Of Shadows – Releasing 09/27/19
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 96%
A documentary film about the union of Mexican drug cartels and Chinese traffickers working together to poach totoaba fish, which sets off a chain of events that place the marine life of the Sea of Cortez in danger. What follows is scientists, journalists and the Mexican Navy doing everything they can to save the endangered Vaquita Porpose from the Sea of Cortez, as they face off against nature and a vicious crime syndicate.

This is a very engaging documentary, from National Geographic, and also the winner of the Sundance Audience Award. If you are a fan of documentaries, then you have a new one to add to your list. If you aren’t a fan, I still recommend checking this one out!
