Movies Releasing For The Week Of September 21, 2018

We are back for another week. Ready to get my … Interesting take on movies?

Here is what movies are coming out tomorrow, and if we suggest you watching them.

American Dresser – Releasing 09/21/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

A widower, is forced by his children and family to get out of the depression caused by the death of his wife. He decides that he should get his motorcycle out and go on a long ride. A lifelong friend joins him along the way, and he find a way in the journey to move forward, and through his depression.

This is an attempt at a movie similar to “The Bucket List”. Tells an interesting story about a man who loses everything, then goes on a journey and rediscovers a reason for living. Though the movie looks interesting, it carries a hook of the broken down man, meeting a younger rider, who too has his issues he is working through. The journey runs in parallel, and the two find resolution in a way for their issues. Not all audiences will like this movie, but it is definitely looking to be Oscar bait. If this kind of movie strikes an interest, just remember to enjoy it for what it is.

Assassination Nation – Releasing 09/21/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 65%

Stolen from the plot of two prior seasons of South Park, a hacker destroys the small town life of the setting of this movie. Releasing all of the personal information, and private actions of the residents, the town gets violently razed at the idea of someone sharing their private information. After the town starts looking into it, one person blindly blames the social media addicted small group of teenage girls. This sends the town into a blood rage, hell bent on killing them. The girls do what they have to do to survive, which means killing the town folks before they can kill them.

This is an interesting idea for a movie. I almost feel like it would fit better as a survival horror video game, hell they might be smart enough to be working on a tie in video game, but I haven’t heard anything. That being said, if you are looking for your weekly action porn film, this is the one to fit the ticket. On top of it though, the blind accusations, and violent nature of simple town folks when their secrets are revealed is an interesting take, with a catchy hook to pull in audiences. I would recommend this film.

Beyond The Sky – Releasing 09/21/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Have you seen the TV Show “People of Earth”, if you have imagine a serious version, with a slower reveal. If you haven’t seen that show: This is the story of a man who decides to disprove an abduction convention’s attendees stories of their abduction. However, after hearing one attendees story, he begins to doubt his belief that all the stories are false. A timetable is set to when the abductees birthday draws near, and they race to uncover the truth of the most sought after question in theorists minds, “Are we alone?”

I don’t really have any interest in seeing this movie. We are not alone, no they would not visit us if they existed. The belief that there wouldn’t be life out there is ridiculous and centrally focused, but the likelihood of one travelling across a galaxy to find another, and not announcing their trip prior to confirm that they would be safe in doing so, would be a waste of resources, and just plain ridiculous. Oh wait, you aren’t here to hear my opinions about aliens? Sorry. See the movie if you are looking for a slow drama with limited payoff, or are just a conspiracy theorist.

The House With a Clock in its Walls – Releasing 09/21/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Jack Black, just having finished a children movie two years prior, finds the need to pay for more things. To do so he joins the cast of House With A Clock In It’s Walls. One part Sorcerer’s Apprentice, two parts Goosebumps, this film covers the story of a 10 year old who moves in with his uncle to find out that he is a warlock, and begins to be trained in the magical arts. A mistake occurs, primarily from the uncle not disclosing a danger in close proximity, and a calamity is unleashed on the world. The boy and his uncle must now race to fix what they wrought.

Do you have a young adult, to old child in your household? Do you need to keep them occupied for two hours this weekend? Then you are seeing this movie. While it doesn’t have the story of grand standing of Harry Potter, it will touch lightly on those feelings. Jack Black does regularly provide hilarious physical comedy in most his works, so you are likely to not be too bored while your children dream of being a warlock.

The Sisters Brothers – Releasing 09/21/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 88%

Set in 1851, Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly play the murderous Sisters brothers. They are constantly at odds over the future that they wish to embark upon. One is happy and content with their ways, as the other would like to retire to a normal life of running a store. God help any that would attempt to rob it. On the course of their journey they become aware of a scientist who has discovered a new way to find gold in the west, and the journey to acquire him and his method will push the brothers harder and further apart then they have before.

While this is designed to look like a comedy, from trailers and in title, the film is a serious western, with a beautiful set dressing. The amazing piece is book-ended with drama, and suspense while still managing to throw in some comedy that may not feel as such once watched in the entirety of the film. While the question of how much comedy is truly in the film, it has peeked my interest, and would recommend, based on the acting ability of the cast alone, that you give this film a chance.
