Movies Releasing For The Week of December 21

We are back for another week. Ready to get my … Interesting take on movies?

Here is what movies are coming out tomorrow, and if we suggest you watching them.

Aquaman – Releasing 12/21/18

Jason Momoa returns to the DC franchise with the movie Aquaman, with the story of his childhood, how he came to be, and the power struggle between himself, who does not want the throne, and his half brother who wants to start a war with humanity. To help save the world, Aquaman has to move past his loner lifestyle and take up his rightful place as king of Atlantis for the better good of both worlds.

Lets be honest, no one wanted a Aquaman anything, until Jason Momoa signed on to the property. His performance was one of the only positive moments of Justice League. So go watch one of the first honestly light hearted DC film, before Shazam comes out.

Bumblebee – Releasing 12/21/18

Bumblebee, a refugee from the Cybertron wars lands in California in the year of 1987. Damaged, and unable to remember his past and mission, Bumblebee finds refuge with a local aspiring mechanic Charlie, played by Hailee Steinfeld. Both learn their place in the world, and work together to survive and grow in this amazing coming of age piece which also is a Transformer movie.

I got the chance to see this movie in advance, and a more in depth review will be posted tomorrow. That being said, if you’ve felt that the Transformers movies have been lacking, and boring with the exception of the explosion porn that Michael Bay is known for, then you are in for a treat. Travis Knight directs an amazing movie, that will bring you back to nostalgia while also entertaining the children watching.

Second Act – Releasing 12/21/18

Jennifer Lopez plays Maya, a 40-year-old woman, who hates her life and job. She applies for a job that is way out of her comfort zone. She gets the job as a direct result of lies by her friend that makes up everything on her resume to place her as a high level, and appropriately skilled for the position. The employer feels that if he did not hire her right away he’d be a fool. What follows is the struggle through the position, where she learns that her life experiences are as valuable on the job as an education at those fancy schools would have been. The movie then leans into the eventual discovery of her false background.

I don’t really have interest in this movie. It seems like a later in life retelling of “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead”, but instead of a child getting a job by lying on her resume, it’s a 40 year old woman. People will still watch this movie for Jennifer Lopez. It’s a semi-family friendly film that showcases a false narrative that if you lie, you can get what ever job you want. Stay in school kids.

Vice – Releasing 12/21/18 (PUSHED BACK UNTIL DECEMBER 25th
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

VICE is the story of the George W. Bush presidency, but not just. It’s more about the life of Vice President Dick Chaney. The story goes from his youth, all the way through his iconic role as the Vice President, in the most… second most, strenuous moment in recent political history.

An amazing cast, a scary transformation of Christian Bale, and one of the most questionable true tales. That being said the acting is top notch and not to mention bale includes the acting talent of Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, and Tyler Perry to name a few. This is definitely a watch. If you miss this film, you will regret it.

Zero – Releasing 12/21/18
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Raj, is a very short man. Like… comically short. But that’s the joke. He is looking for a woman to love, and in the process accidentally falls for a very smart woman with one setback, she is in a wheelchair. He courts and attempts to woo her, but he is out of her league. Over time he shows her that he cares and a relationship forms. Around that time, a superstar of his dreams shows up in his life. She falls for him, and now he has two women he cares about. In a Bollywood climax he realizes who he wants more, but has to perform an epic act to win back her love.

Wow. This movie is… Well it’s a lot. So much actually. Most people reading this wont see this movie, but it’s production value is high. The story is epic, and the tale is vibrant. I recommend if you are willing to go outside of your comfort zone, you could do far worse then this movie. It’s funny and engaging, all-be-it a bit disconnected with the United States mentality in parts, still a great film to behold.
