Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of October 1, 2021

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on “If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.

The Addams Family 2 – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

In the sequel to the recent animated comedy, the Addams Family find themselves with aging children who are to old to hang out with their family. In a last ditch effort to connect, they load everyone in the car and head out for a family vacation which leads them to a lot of familiar and new kooky characters.

It’s a kid friendly Addams Family. While I did not personally like the shift from the amazing live action series, this new animated film is closer to the original animation of the Addams Family, and has had some positive buzz.

Old Henry – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 78%

A widowed farmer and his son get more then they bargain for when the good deed of taking in an injured man, Old Henry. Men come looking for Henry, and his money, and the farmer has to decide if he should risk his home, and his own questionable past, to defending a stranger.

I love stories with a person who comes from a skillful and dark past trying to hide it. I also love these stories when they are forced to break their silent vow to their new life to protect others like A History of Violence, or Nobody. If you are looking for a gritty and action packed western, check out Old Henry.

The Survivalist – Releasing on Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

A year and a half after the fall of civilization due to a viral outbreak, a former FBI agent, played by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, is forced to protect a young woman, played by Ruby Modine, immune to the disease from a dangerous gang leader, played by John Malkovich, hunting her.

While it seems an awful lot like the story of Last of Us, the movie focuses more on the disease and collapse of civilization, and not on zombies. Additionally, I’ve loved Rhys-Meyers since I saw him as Dracula in the series of the same name, and you can’t go wrong with the skill and screen presence of John Malkovich.

Val – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming Four Days Later
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Fin, played by Zachary Mooren, is running from the law, and during his escape finds himself in the home of a high class escort, Val, played by Misha Reeves. He holds her hostage, and she asks him what he is really after, which leads to him accepting a deal with a demon. Now Fin is stuck in his own personal hell as Val shows him what her deals entail.

No this is not the documentary made by Val Kilmer, this is a horror themed film about selling your soul to a demon. In all honesty it’s more psychological horror then jump scare monster horror. However if you like the idea and stories of deals made with demons, then check out this film!

Venom: Let There Be Carnage – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When Venom and Eddie Brocks involvement with the notorious serial killer Cletus Kasady leads to him connecting with Venom’s offspring, they accidently create Carnage. Now Eddie and Venom will have to fight a creature so evil, so insidious, it will take all their strength to stop the monster before he makes the city his personal snack.

This was the film that the fans wanted to see. I’m a little worried though, since it’s rated PG-13. How can you have a Carnage movie with anything less then an R rating? Hell it should be NC-17! That being said, I am very interested in seeing Woody Harrelson’s take on the unstable villain.
