Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of February 25, 2022

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on “If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.

Butter – Releasing in Theaters

Butter, played by Alex Kersting, is a high school junior who has a lot going for him, but his weight holds him back. To prove this, he befriends a popular girl at his school by lying about being from a different school. While in high school, he is bullied, but his scam might be exactly what it takes to become popular.

It’s sad how much of the modern world is specifically obsessed with social media. The idea that the main character is going to make their life better with social media is so unrealistic. However, if you are looking for a young adult drama to watch, then this is something at least.

Cyrano – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 85%

A story of a love triangle. Cyrano de Bergerac, played by Peter Dinklage, is a skilled man when it comes to words or swords, but his love interest Roxanne, played by Haley Bennett, has eyes for the attractive Christian, played by Kelvin Harrison Jr., and he for her. However Christian isn’t as skilled as Cyrano, so he comes to the gentleman for help.

The last re-imagining of this tale was the much loved last Roxanne, a Steve Martin film. While that film was a pure comedy, this film stands out more as a drama with amazing acting, and beautiful cinematography.

The Desperate Hour – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 26%

Amy Carr, played by Naomi Watts, is a widowed mother who struggles to help her children feel normal in a small town. However, when a school shooting occurs, she races to save her son.

I don’t know how I feel about the fact that so many school shootings have occurred, and as a result it’s just enough to be a story point in a film as if it was nothing. I am more than willing to give this a chance though, but a lot of reviewers have not viewed it positively.

Gasoline Alley – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

When a murder happens in Los Angeles, Jimmy, played by Devon Sawa, is the first suspect for the detectives, played by Bruce Willis and Luke Wilson. Now Jimmy will have to overcome his ex-con history, and prove his innocence within the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles.

I am always impressed how many movies Bruce Willis has made since the pandemic started. It’s shocking. While a lot of them are not great, I love Luke Wilson, and am very interested in seeing what Devon Sawa can do.

Studio 666 – Releasing in Theaters

While the Foo Fighters start to work on their 10th album, they force themselves to move in together at an Encino mansion. However, their plans of creating music are threatened by the supernatural forces that live within the house.

This quasi real life story, with insane concepts thrown in is completely perfect for the rock band Foo Fighters. They do an amazing job, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for a Jack Black cameo…
