Movies and Videos On Demand For The Week Of April 15, 2022

As we prepare for the opening of theaters and the return to normal life practices, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on “If You Should Go Out” Here. Until then though, if you do go to a theater make sure it has a policy of requiring attendees to wear masks, and sit in isolated groups out of proximity of other viewers.

The Cellar – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 36%

When Keira Woods, played by Elisha Cuthbert, looks into the mysterious disappearance of her daughter in the cellar of their new home. But as she investigates she finds her entire home is controlled by a powerful entity and the further she digs, the worse it will be for her family.

The depth that people will go to for lost families under the hopes of seeing them again will take people to a dark and deep place. This horror-thriller will showcase that while at the same time pulling in evil foreboding.

Chariot – Releasing in Theaters and Streaming

Dr. Karn, played by John Malkovich, guides people through their reincarnation, but Harrison, played by Thomas Mann, starts to have recurring dreams about a woman it’s a glitch in the system that Dr. Karn will have to fix before it drails Harrison’s current life.

A dark and interesting thriller that feels like a darker version of Defending Your Life or even Chances Are. If you like questionable stories about this type of topic, then you should check out this film.

Dual – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – 80%

When Sarah, played by Karen Gillan, receives a terminal diagnosis she hopes that cloning herself will help her friends and family. However, when the disease doesn’t kill her the system won’t allow for two of her. The court system has a play for these conditions though, as they will have a year to prepare for a court-mandated duel to the death.

This is a very dark idea indeed. A world where the government would prefer murder over an unsanctioned life which could make the system more difficult. If you like sci-fi and dramas then this film will fit your bill.

Father Stu – Releasing in Theater

Stuart Long, played by Mark Wahlberg, is trying to find a new life after his boxing career ends. In Los Angeles working as a market clerk, he finds religion while trying to charm a woman. When he encounters a miracle that saves his life, he wonders if his life would be better served helping bring others to God. Not everyone else though thinks it’s a good idea having considered his past life.

I thought this movie might be a bit ridiculous until I found out it was based on a true story. While I am still less likely to see this movie due to the inclusion of Mel Gibson, if you like drama movies with uplifting conclusions, then this one might be a good fit for you.

Room 203 – Releasing in Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes Reviewer Score – (None Available Yet)

Kim, played by Francesca Xuereb, and Izzy, played by Viktoria Vinyarska, are friends who decide to move in together. However, their new apartment has a dark and mysterious energy. As they investigate the history of the place they find every former tenant met a dead end.

If you have room for a second horror movie this one feels almost identical to the prior on our list, but this one deals with a lot more investigation, and fewer family issues to play into the story.
