International Ninja Day

At one point in everyone’s lives, we have all dreamed of becoming a ninja. Be it through comics like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, from movies like The Karate Kid or with Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee, or from TV shows like Power Rangers. Well today, put on those headbands and wear your best blacks because today is International Ninja Day!

I was actually quite surprised to find out that International Ninja Day was created in 2003 by Ninja Burger as a way to celebrate the Ninja speed with which their burgers are delivered. What is Ninja Burger you ask? Well, I know of it by it’s tabletop game (By Steve Jackson Games), but it started as a parody website started in late 1999, purporting that a sect of noble ninja have taken to secretly delivering fast food meals, anywhere, anytime, within 30 minutes or less. Failure to deliver within the ascribed time limit results in seppuku. Ninja Burger became well known after appearing on and becoming an affiliate of Fark.com, and soon after it was turned into a role-playing game. The site has also spawned a series of comic strips, several short films, a second role-playing game, a card game, a multimedia CD, and a book.

Since this is a comics post, I have curated for you my favorite top 3 ninja related webcomics to inspire your inner ninja. In no particular order, here they are:

SATAN NINJA 198X

Not suitable for kids! Inspired by radical 1980s media, Satan Ninja 198X is the tale of Eddie McCarthy, an unpopular high school senior who pines for the hottest girl in school. Of course, he hasn’t got a chance. But everything changes when Eddie stumbles upon a magical Hell-forged glove with the ability to turn him into a ninja with infernal powers. Unfortunately, the glove also makes him the target of demonic beings from outer space.

THE WHITE NINJA

White Ninja Comics are not for the weak of mind. They are a brilliant satirical commentary on controversial worldly issues.

THE ADVENTURES OF DOCTOR MCNINJA
