Prepare Your Eyes For Banned Books Week!

Come one, come all and let’s celebrate the freedom to read! Today I will be preparing you for “Banned Books Week” which starts September 22nd through the 28th. Believe it or not, books are still continued to be banned even today! Part of the Banned Books Week celebration is to make these “challenged” books available to everyone and to bring attention to the harms of censorship. This happens only thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read.

Books have the ability for people to experience stories and perspectives outside of our own understanding. Books are a beautiful thing that should be shared and can bring people together, or to bring people strength. We have Judith Krug to thank for founding Banned Books Week in 1982 and we’ve been celebrating every since!

So what do you say? Want to celebrate by reading some banned books? Who knows, maybe you’ve already read a few of them.

Best thing to do is to check out your local library, they will LOVE to share with you the top banned books that would interest you. Or you can check out the official Banned Books Week website for the latest news, most challenged books list, and more! You might be surprised what books are listed. Be sure to let us know in the comments what books you are most excited to read and what your favorite banned books are.
