Should You Brave The Pandemic For Nerd Events?

This is a difficult situation. I am sure that everyone wants to go back to a world where we can all hang out, go to events, celebrate the nerd culture, and eat your favorite meals at your favorite restaurants.

However, as the world opens, we have to remember that the virus is not gone. COVID-19 is still around, but the world none-the-less is still reopening, and before you head back out and jump into the big wild world, decisions have to be made.

Don’t forget that every place you go, every person you interact with, and everything you touch opens yourself up to potential contamination, putting yourself and others in harm’s way. So then, why will we as a site be covering personal events, activations, and pop-ups? Well, it’s our main coverage on this site, and frankly, people want to know about these events. While we talk about these opportunities, we do not specifically say that you should attend them. That is a decision you as a person will have to make every time you consider going outside.

So is it worth it? It may be, or it may not be. People need creative outlets and depending on the actions of the location, the risk level might be worth the adventure or entertainment.

When making the choice you should consider these factors:

  • The likelihood that you could infect someone else.
  • What pre-existing conditions you have that may put you at risk.
  • The amount of people that will be in attendence at the event.
  • What steps the venue has taken to limit potential exposures.
  • The potential benefit from visiting the venue.
  • We can’t tell you if the decision to attend is the right one, or the wrong one. It’s a decision that only you can make after personally answering these questions, and considering the implications.

What we can promise you, is that we will do future events. We will discuss what steps the venue is taking, and what is available for people at the location, so you can make the right choice for yourself.

Only together as a society can we get through this pandemic, and the geek and nerd community can at times be the most welcoming, and passionate society on the planet!
