Typewise Changes How You Type

So we heard about the Swiss company Typewise because they were an honoree of the 2021 CES Innovation Awards. So, if CES thought it was good enough for them to honor, why not give it a try. They also won 2nd place in the Swiss AI Award, and gold in Functionality for the ‘Best of Swiss App Awards 2020.’

I’ve been trying it now for a week. So let me tell you what I’ve learned.

First, the style of the keyboard is interesting. If you don’t want to dive in too quickly, they do have a traditional version, but what’s the point of getting a new keyboard on your device if you are going to vanilla it.

The hexagon shape of the keys is a bit… confusing at first. The company says it takes a couple of minutes to a couple of weeks to get the hang of the new style and design. They average it at a week.

There are definite benefits to the system though. The hexagons allow for larger keys, 70% larger, and installing gestures to perform tasks like capitalize, and delete saves space on the keyboard. It is designed for two-thumb typing, so if you get this down, you can type a lot faster.

As for jumping into it, they do a great job at making the learning of the new system not only easy but fun with their three-level training program on their site, and even have a game to work on your skills. Once mastered this keyboard boasts that it can reduce typos by 80% and I did notice as I got used to the style, I was more accurate with my texts.

So, why jump at this keyboard? Well, it’s free for one. It’s safe as well. 100% offline, with no approvals upon installation. That means you don’t have to worry about what the app wants to access on your device. That alone is worth it if you were already thinking about picking up a third-party keyboard option.

If you do want to opt for their premium service, it’s pretty reasonable and unlocks multi-language typing and more customization options. You can even try the premium version for 30 days to see if it’s for you.

All in all, after using the program, I can understand the benefits of it. I will be using it for a bit longer, as I am currently still enjoying the initiative nature of the keyboard. Now that I’ve fully adjusted, I don’t know if I can go back to a basic smaller button keyboard!
