Conner’s Critique – Sexy Beasts

We saw the trailer for Sexy Beasts, and while we don’t watch dating shows or reality TV, the premise sucked us in and we jumped at the chance for an early preview!

We’ll be reviewing this series on a modified basis since Story, Acting, and Overall don’t specifically apply. Let’s jump on in!

STORY PREMISE: 7/10
I don’t normally watch reality TV shows. I find them to be a vapid form of entertainment. They specifically play with or insulting an entire generation of viewers or robbing them of opportunities to enjoy great scripted entertainment.

That being said there are a few exceptions to the norm. The requirement to stand out requires an incredible pitch to draw in the viewers. One show that I used to love to watch was the Tool Academy. There was something amazing about watching these idiot men, who didn’t realize that the joke was on them the entire time. They just thought that they were cool. Another great reality TV show that was able to pull away from the crowd was King of the Nerds. King of the Nerds showcased a different group of people in a unique way.

One of the amazing things about Sexy Beasts is that all the contestants are for the most part gorgeous to possible. The entire point of the experiment deals with the idea of connection at a deeper level before you can connect physically. Unfortunately, not all of the people on the show understand the concept. It was very nice to see in the last few episodes that the contestants fully understood the series and its premise.

ACTING GUESTS: 6/10
The costume work on the show was exquisite. I was impressed on so many levels by the many different degrees of costume and varieties of styles. I will say though I felt horrible seeing some of those gorgeous women dressed up as real witches, trolls, and zombies. It was clear that while the show was not about physical appearance, all of the women dressed as hideous monsters were eliminated in the first round. I think that’s enough evidence to say that while their appearances are hidden, those monster masks did affect the choices of the bachelor. There is only a limit to the level of disassociation.

I did enjoy seeing the show switch between genders and have three potential suitors be male and three of them be females. A lot of shows will focus specifically on one gender and with a premise like this, it would feel flat.

OVERALL: 3/10
If you are looking for a fun and interesting show, then this reality dating show will not only keep you entertained but also intrigue you as it’s interesting to see if the face matches their personality.

Conner’s Final Thought(s):
While the show was interesting and fun, I would in the future love to see this show not only focus on non-heterosexual relationships like bi or gay relationships. It could be a great addition to this format.

If you are a fan of Reality TV, then check out this show when it goes live on July 21, 2021!
